FAQs
- What does EMC's free tyre check include?
EMC's free tyre check covers all four tyres and the spare (where applicable). Our technicians will check your car’s tread depth, tyre pressure, and the overall condition of each tyre. We look for signs of damage, uneven wear, or anything that might affect your safety on the road. It takes just a few minutes and gives you real peace of mind, especially before a long journey.
- How often should I have my tyres checked?
We recommend checking your tyres at least once a month and before any long journey. Tyre pressure changes with temperature, and tread depth can wear faster than you might expect (particularly in wet or wintry conditions). Taking advantage of EMC's free tyre check regularly is a quick and easy way to stay safe on the road.
- What is the legal minimum tyre tread depth in the UK?
In the UK, the legal minimum tread depth for car tyres is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its full circumference. Driving with tyres below this limit can result in a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre. Most safety experts recommend changing tyres well before they reach the legal minimum - around 3mm is a good guideline. Our free tyre check will let you know exactly where you stand.
- Do I need to book for EMC's free tyre check?
While walk-ins are welcome where possible, booking ahead ensures we can see you promptly and have the right equipment ready. You can book online or by calling our service centres in Eastbourne or Uckfield. It only takes a few minutes of your time and could make a real difference to your safety.
- Can EMC fit new tyres the same day as the tyre check?
In many cases, yes. If we have the right tyres in stock for your vehicle, we can often fit them the same day. If we need to order specific tyres not already in stock, we'll advise you of our turnaround time. We stock a wide range of tyres across all major brands and price points, so there's something to suit every budget.
